Social Media Marketing: Facebook

There are many different social media platforms that brands can use to market themselves and their products. Facebook is a great platform for companies to use as it has the greatest reach of all social media platforms with over 2.7 billion monthly active users. Another reason Facebook is such a great resource for marketing is that it has a very well mixed community, reaching urban, suburban and rural users fairly equally at 73%, 69% and 66% respectively.  Facebook also reaches a multitude of income groups with an almost equal amount of users that have incomes of <$30k, between $30k and $74,999 as well as $75k and above. These statistics are helpful for companies looking to reach a wide variety of users which is what allows Facebook to really have a control of the social media marketing world.

Another important feature of Facebook's marketing dominance is the amount of data they can provide to the companies that wish to market themselves on Facebook's platform. For instance Facebook offers data that shows the amount the amount of time users spend on their platform per day, how many links and friend requests are sent in just 20 minutes on Facebook (1 million links, 20 million friend requests).  This level of detail is very important to companies with specific goals and who want to control their marketing information, down to the minute.

Currently there are 90 million active business profiles on their platform and over 20 billion messages are exchange on their messaging platform each month with businesses alone. Facebook also offers great customization for their businesses that allow them to personalize and optimize their pages to best fit the needs of their customers. This customization allows them to personalize their cover photos, create some kind of a call-to-action button, as well as create a page description, add contact information and list hours of operation.

Finally, Facebook allows its business pages to track their progress with data that shows page views, page likes, the number of people reached through their page, post engagement, as well as video views and page followers gained within a time period. This amount of data allows businesses to understand where they are performing well in their marketing plan as well as where they are underperforming so that they can adapt their marketing strategy to best suit their business plan.

  1. I think this is one of the best features that Facebook provides for its users. It is so interesting how easily a company can get feedback in real time as users are viewing what is being posted.
