Carson's Week in Review: Week 12

 Howdy readers!

I bet you couldn't guess what we're talking about in this week's edition! That's right, we're going to be talking about lacrosse! Last week we had two games, one Wednesday and one Saturday. Wednesday's event required us to travel all the way down to Columbus to face Otterbein University, another team we don't get along with very well. After practicing Monday and Tuesday and setting out our game plan, we took the quick bus ride down to Otterbein, in the rain, and got ready to play. The rain persisted lightly throughout the entirety of warm-ups, but when it came to game time its like the sky understood it was time to stop and the rain disappeared. The first quarter was solid and we took an early lead but a sloppy second quarter saw that lead disappear as Otterbein actually took a one goal lead going into halftime. We came out strong in the second half and won the third quarter 4-0, giving us the lead back at 11-8 by the end of the quarter. We continued this strong play into the fourth quarter and expanded our lead by one, giving us a 14-10 victory at Otterbein!

After Wednesday's exciting win over Otterbein, it was time to shift the focus to our next opponent, Marietta College. This is a team that just recently got their lacrosse program back up within the last five years and they have done an incredible job building the foundations for a strong program. For some context, we beat them my freshman year 24-5 and you'll see in this blog how much better they have gotten. Although Marietta has greatly improved over the last few years, they're still a team that we simply expect to beat, so it was hard for some of the guys on the team to get excited about playing them, which isn't okay. It shouldn't matter who we play, we should bring the same energy to every game and we simply didn't do that Saturday. There were some great plays made by both teams, but the wildest thing about the game was the weather. We experienced just about every season in a single game. Pre-game warmups felt really nice out although it was a bit overcast, the first quarter of the game saw snow showers, which turned to summer sunlight and warmth in the second, back to hail and rain in the third before finishing up in the same overcast fashion as we started warm-ups with. At the end of the day, we beat Marietta but not by an extremely comfortable margin as they kept it relatively close the whole game as the final score was only 9-4 and we left the field with a bit of a sour taste because we won, but we knew we could have played much better.

Thanks for reading this week's edition, come back next week where I will be telling about our biggest game of the season to this point, John Carroll on Good Friday!
