Carson's Week in Review: Week 13

Howdy readers!

It's time for your weekly ONU Men's lacrosse update! Last week we had the opportunity to play John Carroll University up in Cleveland. This was a big opportunity for our program as we have never beaten them in school history and they have pretty much dominated the OAC for the last 5 years, winning the conference championship each of those years. We believed we had a real shot at taking them down this year as we have potentially the most talented roster in team history and have played in some big time games this season. We drove up to Cleveland the night before the game, Thursday, and stayed in the local Embassy Suites hotel, which was incredibly nice. We had pizza with the team and had some downtime to hangout and do some team bonding which was also a blast.

In the morning it was time to get ready and take the 30 minute bus trip from the hotel to JCU's campus and prep for the game ahead. We arrived two hours prior to the game, as usual, and the goalies got ready for our pre-game warmups an hour and a half before game time. We felt pretty good during the warmup and felt ready to have a great game, which is how it started. JCU took an early 1-0 lead but we quickly responded with a goal of our own before giving up one more in the first quarter to end the period down 1-2. The second quarter was another battle and we scored a goal to bring the score within two goals with just 12 seconds left but got sloppy and gave up a goal with just one second remaining before halftime to make the score at half 3-6.

Unfortunately, that last goal we gave up seemed to be a big momentum boost for John Carroll going into the second half and we did not play our best and ended up taking a big loss with a final score of 6-14. This was not the result we hoped for, obviously, but we also proved we could play with this team and as long as we are not careless with the ball and take advantage of our opportunities, we can beat them if we play them in the conference tournament that starts next week. I hope we are able to learn from our mistakes in this one and come back strong if we are given the opportunity to play them again as I would really love to beat that team, especially in game that matters like the potential OAC championship game.

This week we will be playing Heidelberg University Wednesday night and Capital Saturday. These games are huge for our program as we currently have nine wins on the season and a 10 win season is pretty impressive and something our program wants to achieve this season. Plus if we beat Heidelberg on Wednesday, we guarantee a playoff spot this year and if we follow that up with a victory over Capital, we are also guaranteed to have a home game in the first round of the playoffs which would be very exciting!

Thanks for reading and tune in next week to find out how we did against Heidelberg and Capital!
